Francesco Gioia

Born in Udine, he graduated with honors in Piano from the “B. Marcello” Conservatory in Venice under the guidance of V. Sivilotti, and in 2008 completed the two-year specialist program in Piano, with a chamber and compositional focus, at the “J. Tomadini” Conservatory in Udine, studying with A. Carcano, I. Gregoletto, and D. Zanettovich, and earning a final grade of 110/110.
During the same period, in 2005, he earned a degree in Law from the University of Udine.

He studied conducting with L. Shambadal, D. Renzetti, R. Gessi, A. Fogliani and E. Nicotra, and attended masterclasses with K. Arp and S. Thorp.
He deepened his knowledge of the symphonic repertoire and, under D. Renzetti, of the classical and early Romantic operatic repertoire.

He was awarded 2nd Prize at the International Conducting Competition organized by M. Dittrich in collaboration with the Danube Symphony Orchestra in Budapest.
He received a Special Merit Mention from the jury at the “Black Sea Competition” International Conducting Competition in Constanța, Romania.
He was a semifinalist at the International Conducting Competition organized by L. Ramos and the Orchestra of Córdoba (Spain).

In 2018 he was selected to conduct the Orchestra of the Teatro Dal Verme (Milan) in a matinée concert, performing Beethoven’s Eighth Symphony.
In 2019 he was selected to conduct three symphonies by Brahms with the G. Rossini Orchestra of Pesaro.

He has conducted numerous concerts in Italy and abroad, including appearances at the Bellagio Festival (Como), with the Milan Wind Ensemble, the Dutch Symphonic Ensemble in the Netherlands, and the “G. Legrenzi” Orchestra of Montebelluna.

He is the founder and conductor, since 2012, of the “AUDiMuS” orchestra, collaborating with internationally renowned artists such as David Cooper (Principal Horn, Los Angeles Symphony Orchestra), Marco Braito (Principal Trumpet, RAI National Orchestra), Friedrich Edelmann (former Principal Bassoon, Munich Philharmonic), Stefano Flaibani (Principal Trumpet, Shanghai Symphony Orchestra), Paolo Armato (Principal Horn, Arena di Verona and “Haydn” Orchestra of Bolzano), Rocco Rescigno (Principal Trombone, Duisburg Philharmonic), as well as Luca Rasca, Rebecca Rust, Patrizia Tassini, Carlo Teodoro, and Sebastian Di Bin.

Following extensive research work, he produced a series of video lessons on the Musical Phenomenology of Sergiu Celibidache.

He is Artistic Director of the Scuola di Musica della Carnia and of the international concert series “G. Canciani.”
He has been included in the official register of “Cultural Experts” of the Friuli Venezia Giulia Region.

He leads orchestral conducting masterclasses in collaboration with several music institutions in FVG.
He has created two conducting video courses, one in Italian and one in English.

Together with biomedical engineer Giulio Pravisani, he conceived the lecture “Mathematics & Music,” presented in Conservatories and Universities, and also offered as a university course at the Politecnico di Milano.

He is the author of the piano technique book Il Metodo Chopin, published in 2010 by Audax Editrice.
